Bahamas Day Trip to Staniel Cay, Exumas!

Are you dreaming of one day getting to visit the exquisite chain of islands known as Exuma Cays in the Bahamas? Have a hankering to swim with the swimming pigs of Big Major Cay (aka Pig Beach)?

Would you be brave enough to get in the water with the “pet” nurse sharks of Compass Cay? Do you want to see and snorkel through Thunderball Grotto – made famous by the James Bond movie “Thunderball”?

Or, do you just want to bask in the ridiculously clear, blue water and maybe walk along a sandbar that only appears at low tide?

How about a visit to Staniel Cay Yacht Club – mentioned by Jimmy Buffet as one of the 10 great places for a waterside drink! Are you ready to go now? Me too!

Here’s a great way to experience all of the above – and more. Staniel Air, based out of Florida, offers a one of a kind Exumas day trip from Ft Lauderdale to Staniel Cay, Exumas which will include (weather permitting) a beautiful flight to Staniel Cay over the stunning Exuma Islands then transfer to one of their luxurious and roomy boats for an ‘insiders’ island tour of the attractions listed above – plus time to explore the island and beaches of Staniel Cay and enjoy some beverages, if you’d like, at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club Bar!

Zipline and Boblsed Ride at Mystic Mountain, Jamaica

Arriving at the top of Mystic Mountain, Jamaica via the Skyride, we noticed that there was a more to experience than just the zipline and the bobsled ride…

But before checking the other attractions, we headed straight for the zipline!

After getting geared up, we headed down the path towards the first platform.

The zipline at Mystic Mountain offers:

  • Seven platforms
  • Six Zip lines averaging nearly 100 meters in length
  • One 10-meter vertical rappel descent
  • One 25-meter suspension walking bridge

The first 5 lines were a ton of fun! Our guides were great – very attentive and hilarious. Once we got to the 6th platform, we couldn’t locate the next line. Our guide told us that this was where we would be taking a vertical descent – a nicer way of saying a longggggg drop! Most were a little nervous about the drop, but it ended up being easier than it looked.

Next obstacle – the suspension bridge. A long bridge with a little play led to a little more nervous laughter and the final zip.

The last zip was the best with a fantastic view of the ocean.

Next stop – the Jamaican Bobsled.

An exhilarating ride through the rainforest! The only problem? It was over too soon!

Before heading back down on the Skyride, we headed to Mystic Dining to enjoy some refreshment and the amazing view of the port at Ocho Rios.

Sandy Cay, British Virgin Islands

Between Tortola and Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands there’s a small uninhabited island called Sandy Cay.

Sandy Cay is quite small, yet larger than it’s also uninhabited sister island to the north, Sandy Spit. Both islands have become popular with the many people who love to sail the BVI and with excursions from neighboring islands, yet are so very fun to visit and you might still find yourself enjoying the island by yourself, depending on the time of year you visit.

What we liked most, well there’s really nothing we didn’t like…but the island has an amazingly beautiful beach that wraps around nearly half of it, gorgeous blue water and great views of neighboring islands.

We’ve visited Sandy Cay a couple of times and during one of our visits we took the path that cuts through the center of the island. We left from the beautiful, warm, sandy beach on the south side and worked our way through what felt like a jungle.

On the path we saw a multitudes of crabs scurrying around as well as lush green foliage.

The path began to open up after a few minutes and we could see just how different this side of the small island was from the other. Instead of palm trees, there was cactus and the shoreline on this side was very rocky and rough.

From our vantage point on this side of Sandy Cay, we could see Sandy Spit’s white sliver of sand in front of Green Cay with Little Jost to the left.

After spending a few moments checking out the phenomenal view, we headed back to the south side to spend some time on the white sand beach and play in the crystal clear blue water…
