There are bars with a view and then there are bars with a VIEW! Hog Heaven is a Bar & Grill sitting high atop Virgin Gorda with an absolutely beautiful view of the entire North Sound.

From your perch in the sky, you can see Leverick Bay, Bitter End Yacht Club, Saba Rock Resort, Necker Island and The Sandbox on Prickly Pear Island.
On clear days, you can even make out a faint strip of Anegada in the distance.

Hog Heaven is a small, unassuming building on top of the hill on Nail Bay Road overlooking North Sound. It’s owned by Blondie, who apparently is also a pig farmer/ship captain on Virgin Gorda.

One of the rum drinks on the menu was a Blondie Special and we ordered that and a rum punch and took a seat to drink in the view.

Blondie Special and Rum Punch
Hog Heaven is known for its BBQ, so we decided to order a plate, as well as a bowl of Conch Chowder. Both were delicious and very reasonably priced.

Want some Rum with a View (and some delicious BBQ)? This is the place to get it on Virgin Gorda!

Like the taste of tart and tangy cranberry? If so, you might enjoy the taste of this easy, light and refreshing cocktail. No sugar added to this one, so it’s not an overly sweet combination. I love the addition of the mint which adds a bit of freshness to the mix.

We’re always on the look out for tasty new mojito recipes and ran across this one recently. The orange mixes very nicely with the lime and mint. A delicious taste of tropical citrus goodness – good even in the winter when oranges are in high season. Almost like a little sunshine in your glass!

The first time I experienced a drink called the a Dirty Banana was in Jamaica after spending the day on a Cool Runnings Sail to Dunn’s River Falls. The sail offered endless pours of rum punch and to be honest with you, by the time someone ordered a Dirty Banana cocktail for me later that evening, I was nearly rummed out for the day. I know, what a lightweight. However, the lovely flavor of fresh banana mingled with dark rum and coffee flavored liqueur remained etched in my mind.
What a way to ring in the New Year! The delectable taste of a mojito topped off with some festive Champagne. This recipe makes 2 but it can easily be made into bigger batches. Prepare the mojito portion ahead of time and just add the Champagne right before serving so that you can enjoy the party too!
Last week, while having an after-golf beverage with friends, one person in the group asked the bartender to surprise her with a refreshing tropical beverage with rum. He returned a short time later with a frothy, cold, pleasantly colored beverage that he called “his” version of Sex On The Beach – using rum instead of vodka. She sipped the beverage, sighed, then declared that it may in fact be better than the “real thing”. What?? Either she was REALLY thirsty, or this was one magical beverage!!
